Technical SupportHelp with your M1 Fiber connection, email, and more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your M1 Fiber service should be active as soon as our technician completes the installation at your premises. Simply connect your computer's Ethernet port to the M1 Fiber Network Termination Unit (NTU) using a standard Category 5 Ethernet cable. Your connection uses DHCP — no PPPoE username or password required. See our Setup Guide below for step-by-step instructions.
First, try our Speed Test to measure your actual throughput. If speeds are below your plan's specification, try the following: (1) Restart your computer. (2) Power-cycle your M1 Fiber NTU by unplugging it for 30 seconds. (3) Check for programs running in the background that may be using bandwidth (file-sharing programs, automatic updates, etc.). (4) If using a home router, connect directly to the NTU to rule out router issues. If problems persist, call us at 1-800-M1-FIBER.
Open Outlook Express. Go to Tools > Accounts > Add > Mail. Enter your name as you'd like it to appear. For email address, enter yourname@m1fiber.com. For incoming mail server (POP3), enter mail.m1fiber.com. For outgoing mail server (SMTP), enter smtp.m1fiber.com. Your account name is your full email address. Your password was provided in your welcome letter. For SMTP authentication, check "My server requires authentication" in the server properties.
To prevent spam (unsolicited commercial email), our SMTP server only accepts outbound mail from M1 Fiber IP addresses. If you're traveling and connected through another provider, you'll need to use that provider's SMTP server for outbound mail. You can always check your M1 Fiber email via our Webmail interface from any internet connection.
Your M1 Fiber account includes personal web space (size depends on your plan). Upload your HTML files via FTP to ftp.m1fiber.com using your M1 Fiber username and password. Place files in the /public_html/ directory. Your web page will be accessible at http://home.m1fiber.com/~yourusername/. The default page should be named index.html.
Absolutely! M1 Fiber works with any computer that has a standard Ethernet port and supports TCP/IP networking, including Apple Macintosh (Mac OS 8.6 and later), Microsoft Windows (95, 98, ME, NT, 2000), Linux, and other UNIX-like systems. Mac users: go to the TCP/IP Control Panel, set "Connect via" to "Ethernet" and "Configure" to "Using DHCP Server."
